What we do

Get Unstuck Coding Cafe is a space for QTIBIPOC survivors of sexual or domestic violence who are interested in computer software to get .00001% closer to any goal related to coding. All projects, job applications, school assignments, and levels of experience are welcome. This is a space for doing, trying, starting again and failing forward. We encourage baby steps as building blocks and unconventional pathways to knowledge.

Get Unstuck Coding Cafe aims to eradicate limiting beliefs about who can learn to code. We believe that momentum is built when more support is applied instead of more pressure, and aim to fill gaps in progress with community spaces that nourish body, mind and spirit.

Together we are a container for hope, an unapologetic declaration of faith in oneself, and a system of community support to keep going.

Where can you find us?

We host pop up cafes all over LA County. You can find us in a variety of spaces including libraries, community centers, boba shops, backyards and more.

Who we are

Beary Bolaños (any pronouns) is a Queer, non-binary, software engineer, artist and community builder with roots in Southern California (Tongva land), Guatemala and Nicaragua. They are a first-generation college graduate from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a B.A. in Gender, Ethnic and Multicultural Studies. Some of their proudest accomplishments include having served as a counselor-advocate on the sexual and domestic violence crisis hotlines for Project SISTER Family Services and the East LA Women’s Center.

In 2021, they dove in headfirst at Creating Coding Careers as part of the first cohort of the developer pre-apprenticeship program. This life-changing decision kickstarted their career as a software apprentice at a Fortune 500 company where they have continued to grow their career over the last three years. As a software engineer and CCC alumni, Beary is dedicated to creating accessible technology spaces rooted in community support and sustainability.

On weekends you can catch them watching live theater, hosting a full moon cypher or writing their next play.
